Official EV Training and IV Breeding Guide Empty
PostSubject: Official EV Training and IV Breeding Guide   Official EV Training and IV Breeding Guide EmptyTue Jul 29, 2008 1:32 am

So what is an EV?
EV is short for Effort Value.Every time you defeat a pokemon you recieve one or more EVs.Different pokemon give you different EVs.The different types of EVs are: HP, ATTACK, DEFENCE, SPECIAL ATTACK,SPECIAL DEFENCE, and SPEED.Some pokemon only give one EV. Some give two or three. Some pokemon give out 1-3 in 2 or more stats.

How Does it Work?
A pokemon can can recieve a total of 255 EVs in each stat, but only 510 EVs total. You should only use 252. This leaves you enough space to fully EV train a pokemon in 2 stats and still have 6 EVs leftover for another stat.Or you can decide to mix-and-match your EVs.For every 4 EVs a pokemon recieves in a single stat, that stat goes up one more than it normally would, after it levels up.This means that 2 of the EVs you receive are basically worthless.(You may not recieve ALL of the stat boosts in one level.Your pokemon may/may not recieve them all at the same time.If it doesn't, then it should recieve them later down the road, as it levels up.)If you are EV training a lv100 pokemon follow the directions for tip 4 (at the bottom) and re-train it the way you would like.put it in the pc and take it back out.the stats should be updated.

Why Should I EV Train?
Trust me on this one.EV training gives you a HUGE advantage over your opponets.Would you rather have a pokemon with an attack of 100 or 163? Yes EV training can do that for you, but only if you train correctly. Massive stat changes such as this, can easily decide a win for you, unless your opponet is also an EV trainer.

What Stats Should I Train In?
It depends on what your pokemon will be used for and also what kind of moveset it has.If your pokemon will be a wall, tank, etc. then you should probably train it's HP and one of the defences. As for the last 4 it should be trained in either speed or atk/sp.atk depending on what kind of moves it knows. If it is a pokemon that knows ALL physical or ALL special Attacks, then it should be trained in the corresponding stat.As for the second stat, train it in Speed. If it has a mix between physical,AND special attacks then train it in those stats.(It's starting to get obvious as to what to train it in, isn't it?)

How do I EV Train?
Ok.put together all of the information you just read.(I hope you read it.. .-_-' )Now as for the actual training...First of all you will need a list of the pokemon to train on for the stat you want to train in.Well...here it is:)
http://serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml
ok.There are several diffferent methods to EV training. There are several different things you can do to speed things up.You can give a pokemon pokerus, a power item,or a macho brace.Power items add 4 EVs to the stat they raise.(The description will say something like "lowers your speed but makes it easier for your attack to go up." This means that whenever you get any attack EVs then that item will give you 4 more! The power items only reduce speed temporarily.after you take the item away your pokemon's speed will go back to normal.Pokerus doubles the amount of EVs your pokemon recieves.(it is not a held item.it is a "disease" that you can randomly get after battling wild pokemon. There are no bad effects of pokerus whatsoever. Macho brace is like a mix between the power items and pokerus. It doubles your EVs but it is a held item and it reduces speed int he same way the power items do.

Now that that's out of the way here are the different methods for giving 252 EV's to a single stat(NOT MIXING-AND MATCHING!!!): (*These methods only work when using pokes that give out ONE EV only!!!)
Vitamins.I don't use them because they are so expensive, but they add 10 EVs to whatever stat it describes. You can only use vitamins if your pokemon has less than 100 EVs.Once you get to 100 evs. in a stat, your pokemon will not accept any more vitamins.

* No items pokerus, etc.: You will need to fight 252 pokemon that raise the stat you are training.(if that pokemon only offers 1 ev.I suggest you train on these, as they are the easiest to find and are actually faster than finding/fainting a bunch of pokemon that offer more than 1 EV.follow this advice for any of the methods you are using.)
* Only pokerus: You will need to fight 126 pokemon that raise the stat you are training.
* Only macho brace: Follow the same instruction as "only pokerus."
* Only power item: You will need to fight 63 of the pokemon that raise the stat you are training.
* Pokerus and macho brace: You will need to fight 63 of the pokemon that raise the stat you are training.
* Pokerus and power item: You will need to fight only 25 of the pokemon that raise the stat you are training, and one more w/o the item.

here is a simple equation you could use:
Power items are +4 per battle. The macho brace is X2. If you have PKRS that gives you x2 also. The PKRS get's added after the item. So if you have the power item and battle a pokemon that gives 1 EV you get (1+4)x2=10 EV's per battle. If it was the macho brace you would get (1x2)x2=4 EV's per battle

Tips
1.Ok.now...you are probably wondering the best spots to EV train. I like the following:
*Each pokemon below only gives one effort point normally, unless noted otherwise*

HP: bidoof's on the routes at the very beginning. Or on the south side of Solaceon town there is a trainer who has 5 bidoofs. (HP). You can re-battle her with the vs.seeker.
Attack: shinx on the first routes
Defence: Geodude in the Oureburg Mine.
Special Attack: Ghastly in the Old Chateu.
Special Defence: (i've never trained Sp.def. so, I'm not sure about this one:|)Most pokemon found in wateryways while surfing will give you sp.def.(i guess tentacool would be good.)
Speed: On the left side of Eterna City there is a fisherman on the dock. He will be the only on facing to the right. He has 6 magikarps (speed) and you can use the vs. seeker to re-battle him. they are only level 10 and they dont raise any levels!

2.To make these pokemon easier to find, use the pokeradar! Chain the pokemon to make them easier to find.

3.If you follow tip #2 then you have a chance of finding rare pokeradar only pokemon, or even...SHINIES!!!!

4.If you have already trained a pokemon or messed up while training, there IS a way you can fix it...berries.Certain berries say that they raise freindship but lower certain stats. These berries delete all of your EVs in a stat down to 100 BUT only if that stat has more than 100 EVs.If not, it will only delete 10. You should need a maximum of about 11 berries

5. Use the poket'ch. The counter application is VERY helpful for counting how many EVs you have recieved.

(I will update this if I find out anything new.)

I sincerely hope this guide helps many people. Happy EV training!

IV Guide

What the heck is an IV?
IV stands for Individual Value. Each IV gives a pokemon 1 extra stat point in the corresponding stat. A pokemon can have a up to 31 IVs in each stat. The minimum is 0. IV are completely random unless you are breeding for them (explained later in guide). They cannot be influenced without hacking.(Highly un-advisable). These IVs can greatly influence the outcome of a battle, but getting 31 IVs in all stats is EXTREMELY unlikeley.

How does my pokemon get IVs?
When you catch a pokemon it will have a completely random set of IVs. As I have said before, you cannot change the IVs of a pokemon without hacking. If you want a pokemon with certain IVs, your best bet is to breed it or have someone (like me) breed it for you. Later in the Guide I will explain how to breed IVs.

How does IV breeding work?
The way IV breeding works is the parents, regardless of gender, each pass down atleast one of their IV stats. They are more likely to pass down the higher stats and they might not be EXACTLY what the stat is. For example, I dont have a 31 IV ditto for sp. def, but when I am breeding I use one with 30 sp.def. Occasionally I will get a baby with 29 or 31 sp. def. More often than not, it's 30, but you still have the chance of getting that 1 extra IV. Different stats have different ratios of being passed down.

HP: 1/10 (The hardest one)

Defence: 1/6

Everything else: 1/4 (the easiest)

After the parents each pass down 1 stat, the game will pick a random stat form another parent. That will also be passed down. Each parent can pass down a total of 3 stats...altho Im having trouble remembering the how..so if u know plz post or pm me. (this includes guides you may know about that explain this un-important, but interesting part of the guide

What steps should I take to IV breed?
Firstly you definitely need a LOT of dittos. I caught over 50 of them and I still want more. You wanna make sure you have one of each nature, because most of the time when you wanna breed certain IVs you will also want a certain nature. Then after you catch a billion dittos check ALL of their IVs...yes its painstaking but it saves you SO much time in the long run. Trust me. I'm the expert. As you are checking them you will wanna mark them. Choose a guideline to mark them for. Mine is 20+. Whenever you find a ditto with that guideline (in my case 20+) you will need to mark it in the corresponding stat. Let's say I find one with 31 speed. I will mark it with a diamond, because that is the last shape, therefore, corresponding to the last stat; speed. Then after you spend a few hours-days doing that...you will want to make sure you have the pokemon you want to breed. Lets say I wanna breed a jolly Dratini with 31 attack and 31 speed. This is a fairly easy breed. First you choose the easiest IV t o breed, according to the table above (in this case they are both the same so It doesn't matter which) Im picking speed. Now I would take a ditto with 31 speed and breed it with any of dratini's evolutions including dratini. (If you happen to catch a ditto with 31 in speed AND attack, obviously you will wanna use that instead. Breed them until you get one 31 speed. (or if you are using a 31 speed/atk then breed until it has both and skip the next step). After you do this, you take the 31 speed and breed it with 31 attack ditto. Then breed until you get 31 in attack and speed. Next you get your Jolly Ditto and give it an everstone. Breed it with the 31 atk and speed dratini. Check the all of the Jolly dratinis for 31 atk/speed. when you get one you are done! Congratulations you just IV bred your first pokemon!

How do I Check IVs?
Most people use Metlakid's IV calculator Link, but I prefer serebii's IV calculator Link. It isnt as comlicated. I really dont use Either of them tho...I have an AR that I use to save time doing stuff, such as using walk thru walls, and check a pokemon's IVs. I DO NOT HACK THE POKEMON!!! The "check your IV" code is REALLY helpful and if you would like it plz PM and I will share it with you. The only downfall is if the pokemon has 0 in a stat that IV and all the rest afterwards arent shown.

Anyways...you may need to do an IV battle if you dont plan on using the AR code for it. The way this works is you take your pokemon with you and battle a lv 100 battle with some1. check the stats of your pokemon. Input them into the calculator. (you will need to know the nature before you go into the battle!) press calculate. It will show you the IVs

*WARNING!!! you cannot check the IVs of a pokemon using an IV calculator unless it is untouched or you know it's exact EVs. otherwise your outcome will be screwed up. This is also why the AR code is helpful. The pokemon can be touched and it still tells you the EXACT IVs.

Tips to IV breeding
Look at my example above. Remeber where I said to breed the jolly ditto with the 31 atk/speed dratini? yeah...well what you can do to possibly speed things up is, wait until you get a femal Jolly with one of the 31 stats. Then wait until you get a Male dratini (any nature) with 31 in the other stat. Give the female the everstone and breed them together. If you remember from earlier Each parent automatically passes down one stat, then the next randomy gets chosen from one of the parents. If you do it this way, you will have a higher chance because they each have 31 in different stats, giving making sure that the 31 is almost always passed down. Now all you have to worry about is the nature!

As long as you catch the pokemon in the wild some how it will come up as legit.so if you do anything with pokesav it might come up as not legit so just dont touch pokesav and youll be fine.
