Shiny Chaining GuideWhat is it? Shiny Chaining is a method used to find shinies at a higher rate. The poke radar at least quadruples(sp?) the chances, but when you rack your chain up to 40, it's a 1/200 chance of finding one! Although... this can be a very taxing job, it's worth it.
Hey that's cheating! No, it is not cheating, or Gamefreak wouldn't of put it into the game. It's not as easy as it sounds, and takes alot of time...
Why do it? Um... because everyone likes shinies? They're trophies of the Pokemon World...
How do I do it?! While I could write a guide myself , but I learnt alot from others, such as Shuko here:
This is the video guide:

YOU NOOB! You've dedicated your life to chaining, and it's so HARD!
Haha.
Now once you've made this second nature, it becomes as easy as pie. Not. It's still a hard thing to do, but it's possible.
REMEMBER: SOME CHAINS BREAK FOR NO KNOWN REASON AT ALL, SO DON'T FEEL BAD IF YOU KNEW YOU WERE FOLLOWING THE RULES.
This thread is for newbies to chaining to ask questions, and for others to tell us what one's they've caught, or their highest chains. Don't boast, or brag, and be humble to those who maybe aren't as experienced as you.
My guide for Newbies to Chaining:Ok so this part is completely written by me. So are you new to chaining? Are you getting frustrated at chaining, and having your chain break on numbers like 27, or even 6 and 13? Well just let me tell you, THIS HAPPENS TO ALL OF US. I haven't caught a chained shiny in a while, about 48 hours in fact. Now this may be because I'm getting unlucky, or maybe I'm somehow doing something wrong(I doubt it), but maybe it's just 'cos I haven't chained THAT much lately. But the thing is, if you let a simple chain break get you down... you'll never get a shiny.
Ok, so now we've gotten over the frustration, lets look at our chains. The first thing is, finding what we're doing wrong. Let's see... are we going into patches right next to us? Are we walking up into bad patches? Or are we riding our Bike around here? The best thing you can do, if CHECK THE RULES, and see if you're breaking any. If not, it's just bad luck, and game is being mean to you. Another thing to remember: EVERY CHAIN BREAKS. It's inevitable, because it's in the game's coding. Once you've found what's going wrong, or if nothing's going wrong, that you're just unlucky, you should get back to chaining!
Here's some begginer tips:
~ Try to chain swarms, but not swarms that're in bad weather conditions, such as Beldum, or Swinub(my swarm >.<): This helps, because swarming pokemon tend not to break chains so easily, although you must still follow the rules.
~ If you're chaining an Electric pokemon, use a pokemon with Static: This helps, because it attracts Electric pokemon, making it easier to chain them.
~ If you're chaining Steel pokemon, use a pokemon with Magnet Pull: (see reason for using Static)
Ok, there's some tips, so now you're proberly wanting to know some easy Pokemon to chain, correct?
The pokemon I myself find easy to chain are:
~ Shinx on Route 203 (use Static)
~ Bidoof and Starly on Route 201
~ Low Level swarming Pokemon.
I have recently calculater that Super Repels are cheaper in bulk than max. Here are my Calculations:
Calculations:
Say you have Y100,000. (*= divide by)(MR= Max Repels)(SR=Super Repels)(S= Steps)
Max Repels: Y100,000 * 700 = 142.85714MR | 142.8MR x 250S = 35,700S in total.
Super Repels: Y100,000 * 500 = 200SR | 200SR x 200S = 40,000S in total.
So by buying Super Repels you get an Extra 4,300 steps for your money.
Ok, so now let's see.... what else is there...? Ah yes! Intermediate tricks:
~ If you want a certain Nature, use a pokemon with the nature you want, and make sure it has the Ability Syncronise: This gives a 50%(I think) chance of finding a pokemon with the same nature.
~ If you want a certain Gender, like a Male Ralts, use a Pokemon with the opposite gender that has Cute Charm: This attracts the opposite gender pokemon.
~ Keep a masterball handy, if you're going for thing's like Beldum: You don't want them killnig themselves, or worse killing you!
Ok, so now we're ready to chain! But what if we want a certain number of shiny Pokemon? Guess what? You can get MORE THAN ONE SHINY POKEMON FROM A CHAIN. Just continue reseting, and get as many as you like, but remember, the shiny patch may end the chain too.... Let's see what Pokemon we DON'T WANT TO CHAIN if you're a begginer:
~ Beldum, Swinub, or any other bad weather pokemon.
~ Trophy Garden only pokemon: Gosh these hate to be chained. You can do it, but it's even more tedious than ever...
~ Things with Seldestruct, Explosion, or Roar and Whirlwind: Self explanatory really...
